Positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, which is derived from NASA JPL data. You can take any planet in your chart and check its longitude against an independent ephemeris for the same moment.

Ayanamsa Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the Indian government standard. More about this
The ayanamsa is the offset between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs. Lahiri is the value adopted by the Indian Calendar Reform Committee, so your chart lines up with a standard Indian panchang rather than a Western one.

Whole sign gives each house one complete sign, counted from the Lagna. It is what the classical texts assume, and it means the diagram and the planetary table can never disagree about which house a planet sits in.

The offset is worked out for the date of birth, not by today's rule. Wartime clock changes are handled, and for births before India adopted a single standard time the chart uses local mean time from the longitude of the birthplace.

Do I need to know my exact birth time? Show the answer
It helps, because the birth time sets your Lagna and twenty minutes can change it. If you are not sure, say so on the form — the chart is still calculated, and the parts that depend on an exact time are marked as less certain rather than presented as fact.
