What this is
Sade Sati is the stretch during which Saturn crosses three signs: the one before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the one after. Saturn takes roughly two and a half years over each, so the whole passage runs about seven and a half years, and it comes round roughly every thirty. It is counted from the Moon, not from the lagna and not from your sun sign, which is why a date worked out from a newspaper column will not match one worked out from a chart.
This page lists every Sade Sati in your life within the range the calendar covers — past, present and to come — and opens each one into its three phases with real start and end dates. Saturn goes retrograde for several months a year, so it can leave the three signs and return; where that happens the page says so and gives the dates, rather than smoothing it into one unbroken block. It also shows the two dhaiyas, Saturn through the 4th and the 8th from your Moon, which the tradition names alongside it.

How do I know when my Sade Sati starts? Show the answer
From the sign your Moon occupies at birth, not your sun sign. Saturn enters the sign before your Moon sign and the period begins; it ends when Saturn leaves the sign after it. This page works the dates out from your own Moon position using the same ephemeris as the rest of the site, so they match your chart rather than a general table.

Why do the dates differ from another source? Show the answer
Two usual reasons. The ayanamsa: this site uses Lahiri, and a source set to Raman or Krishnamurti will put Saturn over a sign boundary on a different day. And retrograde motion: Saturn turns back for several months each year, so a source using average ingress dates will differ from one reading actual positions, sometimes by weeks. This page uses actual positions and shows the turn-backs.

What are the three phases? Show the answer
Saturn in the sign before your Moon sign, Saturn in your Moon sign, and Saturn in the sign after — usually called the rising, peak and setting phases. Each runs about two and a half years. The page dates all three separately, because knowing which one you are in is more informative than knowing only that the period is running.
